Carl Sandburg College student leaders are being recognized at the state level for their work in the community.
Illinois State Representative Dan Swanson presented House Resolution 837, which was approved by the Illinois House of Representatives. The resolution honors Sandburg student clubs and the Student Development Division for thousands of hours of service and their commitment to leadership.
Anthony Law, Associate Director of Student Engagement and Leadership in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Carl Sandburg College, says the resolution was a special moment for the students involved.
“It’s a great honor, but I love these students because as honored as they were, it wasn’t about the recognition. It was about the service. It does mean a lot to be recognized because it confirms everything that you’re doing. It makes you feel like, okay, we are doing the right thing, and this is worth the investment and the time. With athletics, school, work, and everything else, they find time and make time.”
The resolution recognizes several Sandburg student organizations, including Men of Distinction, Women of Character, the International Student Club, Hispanic-Latino Student Association, Black Student Association, and African Student Association.
The Sandburg student groups completed more than 4,200 verified volunteer hours and took part in hundreds of community service opportunities from August of 2024 through March of 2026.
