This National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4th through May 8th), one local educator’s legacy continues to inspire the love of reading through Julie’s Little Libraries across Henderson, Knox, Mercer, and Warren Counties, shares United Way of West Central Illinois Executive Director Jeannie Weber:

“Julie McVey was one of our board members and a teacher. When I was pushing very hard for us to start Imagination Library, Julie was my cheerleader and helped us get that program going in this area. Unfortunately, she passed away at a very, very young age, and I asked the board of directors if we could install Little Libraries throughout the region in her memory. There are books in them for adults and children.”

Through a received grant from Ameren Illinois, Julie’s Little Libraries are undergoing renovations, so the joy of reading remains within reach for families locally.
