Weather conditions can change in an instant, especially in the Midwest. Being prepared, staying informed, and keeping safety top of mind are important when it comes to remaining alert. City of Monmouth 911 Coordinator Ken Helms reminds residents of the available text alert system and to avoid flooded areas:

“This time of the year we get all these different weird weather events that can happen. We try and send out text messages if there is severe weather alerts that are going out. One of the major things that we always see, anytime severe weather does happen, a lot of times people go out driving around; be very careful especially if you are in town. A lot of our sewers can get overwhelmed when there is standing water or when there is a heavy rain flow, which then results in standing water. Standing water is very dangerous for a number of different reasons, primarily it can get electrified. So, stay out of standing water.”

To receive localized severe weather and emergency alerts, download the CodeRED Public Alerts app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
