On Saturday, June 6th, the Monmouth Flying Club is hosting a Coffee, Cars, and Planes event at the Monmouth Municipal Airport. Secretary Brian Daw shares history of the airport and details of the upcoming event:

“The Monmouth Airport is the oldest airport in the state, continuously operating in one state. It has been around since the 1920’s. There is a lot of history out there. It was on the airmail route, Charles Lindbergh flew in here, along with some other people, when he was doing the mail stuff. It is really a ton of history, it was one of the first WACO dealerships for planes here and in the country. It is a cool place with a lot of history and we just want to get some people out there to enjoy it,” says Daw.

“It is just a drop in event. We are going to have coffee and donuts. Dame Fine is sponsoring the coffee for us, so we appreciate that. We will have a few events throughout the day as well. We are just doing a 50/50 auction, proceeds to benefit the Flying Club. Jet Air is going to do a Stearman ride as an auction item and the Flying Club is also going to have an Intro Flight that someone can do as another auction item,” Daw adds.

“On Saturday, the AMVETS Group, out of Galesburg, they were kind enough to donate a flag and a flag pole to the airport and they are going to have a first flag raising before the Cars and Coffee event start on Saturday, so that is another great event going on,” informs Daw.

Admission is free to the Coffee, Cars, and Planes event at the Monmouth Municipal Airport from 8 am to 11 am on June 6th.
