In preparation of the continued streetscape beautification project of the 200 Blocks of North and South Main Streets in Downtown Monmouth, work the sewer at South Main is set to take place, reports Mayor Rod Davies:
“Ahead of the renovation project that we are going to do there next year, the big sewer interceptor that runs east and west across South Main Street goes under the Bijou and Rivoli Theater and is over 150 years old, we are going to get that sewer lined. It has been an important project that has been on our radar for a while, but we are finally going to get that done. We are also lining some sewer that runs north and south along there. We are replacing a couple of manholes and collectors. We are going to replace those and put two new ones in. We bid those out and the low bid was $428,208 by Hoerr Construction from Peoria, Illinois.”
As part of the same sewer system, the City of Monmouth has entered into an Engineering Services Agreement with the USDA for a $4.2 million loan to address the sewer to the east and west of South Main Street.
