Legion baseball is in full swing, as Galesburg Post 285 was at home last night hosting Moline Post 246.
It was also Play 4 Jay Day, as Post 285 honored former player Jason Maulden, who lost his life back in 2014.
Post 285 Head Coach Andrew Thomas says Maulden’s legacy is still a big part of the program.
“Jason Maulden, former 285 player, passed away in a single-car accident. His grandfather and he both passed away from complications after the wreck. His mother survived in the car, but they were actually on their way home from the state tournament when he was a Legion player. Part of our organization, obviously, we still wear it. My shirt has Maulden 20 on the back. Our guys still have a patch on their jersey. Jason and his family are just good representations of what we want in our program, how you should approach the game, how you should approach everything, and it’s really a good reminder for all of us how fragile life is.”
Post 285 split the doubleheader on Play 4 Jay Day, falling to Moline 10-8 in game one before bouncing back with a 13-2 win in five innings in game two.
Galesburg is now 11-5 on the season, with seven games remaining before the Division Tournament.
