On Saturday, August 15th, the 6th Annual Monmouth Area Vocational Scholarship Music Trivia Night will take place at the Monmouth American Legion. According to Board Member Clint Smock, all proceeds benefit local students looking to attend a vocational or trade school:
“We started this program for scholarships for kids that are coming out of their senior year for vocational and trade schools. A lot of kids are able to get some funding for their trade schools, but they don’t have a lot of their supplies or they need money for books or anything they need for their journey to start their careers. We decided there was a need for that help there in this community, so we started this scholarship for those kids,” says Smock.
“Any student that is in their senior year in high school at United or Monmouth-Roseville, we are keeping it in this area, we have a form that you need to fill out and just a small essay on what your plans are for the future. Last year we were able to give out seven. We usually give out about ten or eleven scholarships. Each one of them is worth $1,000,” Smock adds.
Doors open at 5 pm at the Monmouth American Legion on August 15th, with trivia beginning at 6:30 pm. Cost is $120 per team of up to ten players. In addition to trivia, brisket or fish dinners are available for a free will donation from 5 to 7 pm and a silent auction will be held from 5 to 8 pm. For more information, text 309-536-0278.
