With the recent heavy rains and hot temperatures here, it is prime season for mosquitoes. Warren County Health Department Administrator Jenna Link informs they are testing for West Nile virus:
“We set traps up in Warren County and trap for mosquitoes and test them for West Nile virus. The mosquito that carries West Nile virus is the house mosquito. It typically travels within a mile from where it is laying its’ eggs. If you have a lot of mosquitoes around your house, there is probably a source. They can hatch out in typically seven to fourteen days, but when you get into these hotter temperatures, they can really turn from egg into adult within a week,” reports Link.
“Make sure you are checking your yard and anything that is holding water for seven days can be a perfect spot for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. They like to bite dusk to dawn. Make sure you have mosquito repellent and wear protective clothing,” Link adds.
Mild symptoms of West Nile virus include headaches, fever, body aches, skin rash, or nausea.
