Early detection can make a critical difference in the fight against cancer, which makes scheduling those regular screenings very important. Henderson County Health Department Administrator Josie Lair explains a collaborative program available through the Knox County Health Department:

“It is called the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention. That is a service that you can sign up for, and it will help not only if you don’t have insurance, but it also helps if you do have insurance. Say you have your screening covered with your insurance, however now you have to have further testing done. That is where maybe your insurance doesn’t 100 percent cover that, maybe you will incur greater fees. This helps with the navigator and with covering those costs. I encourage people to reach out and look on the Knox County Health Department website under ‘Disease Prevention.’”

To find out if you are eligible for the program, contact the Knox County Health Department at 309-344-2224.
