Legislation sponsored by State Representative Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) to protect residents in assisted living facilities has been signed into law.
House Bill 3392 modernizes and strengthens the Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act to improve resident safety, elevate professional standards, and enhance regulatory clarity across Illinois.
“This legislation was put forth by the long-term care industry to protect the residents in assisted living and also to give them and their families a more secure atmosphere,” Rep. Hammond said.
Hammond’s legislation ensures that residents in assisted living will continue to receive high-quality, clinically informed, and accountable care, with regulations that adapt to meet the changing needs of those who receive care in these settings.
As care needs increase, regulations must evolve to ensure accurate and timely clinical assessments, clear medication administration standards, and rapid incident reporting.
House Bill 3392 was signed into law as Public Act 104-589. The new law takes effect immediately.
