Illinois State Women’s Basketball Reloading After WNIT Championship Run

The Illinois State women’s basketball team is getting ready to get back to work after putting together a 24-win season and making a run to the WNIT Championship game last year.

The Redbirds will have a different look this season, and General Manager Drew Cole says they are excited about the group they have put together.

“We have seven returners and seven new players. We’re really, really excited. We have four freshmen coming in. We have a top-60 player in the country from Illinois that has had a really good summer that we’re really excited about. Then we were able to get three transfers to kind of fill in a couple kids that decided to leave and go to bigger schools. That’s just kind of the nature of the beast at this point. We were able to get three impact players, so we’re excited.”

Illinois State’s players return to campus this weekend before beginning the school year Monday. The Redbirds will also face a tough non-conference schedule this season that includes matchups with Indiana, Northwestern, Harvard and South Dakota State.
