With Several Returning Starters, United Red Storm Football Hearing Buzz Around the Program

Share

United Red Storm football went (1-8) in 2025 but found themselves in one or two score deficits at the half in a good number of those nine games. With low numbers in the program, depth was an issue for last year’s squad, leading to second half collapses in those games that were close early on. The numbers are definitely on the rise, with dozens of kids playing football at the junior high level and below. Head coach Andrew Goodwin is in his 3rd year leading the program and says that is great news for future varsity numbers.

The Red Storm were young at the skill positions last fall, but they will nearly all be back to lead the United offense this season. Including senior quarterback Kellen Boone, who threw for nearly 1000 yards and had a total offense of over 1400 yards in his junior season. Also back is senior running back Chance Stewart, who led the team with 500 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. Goodwin says the luxury of having nine starters on offense and eight on defense will be a welcome sight.

United opens up the 2026 campaign on the road on Friday night, heading to Bureau Valley High School in Manlius, Illinois. It will be the longest road trip for the Red Storm in the regular season. It’s a cross-division game in the LincolnLand Conference. The conference is now divided into three divisions from two in the previous two seasons. United is in the LincolnLand South with A-Town, South Fulton, Rushville/Industry, Havana and the LVC co-op, which is made up of the North Fulton and Lewistown school districts.
