Carl Sandburg College Volleyball Head Coach Todd Winkler recently reached a major career milestone, picking up his 500th career victory with the Chargers.
Winkler has spent his entire collegiate volleyball coaching career at Sandburg, and during that time has helped lead the program to four Arrowhead Conference championships and four trips to the NJCAA National Tournament.
Winkler says reaching 500 wins is something he never expected when he first took over the program.
“I never thought it would happen when I took the job a long time ago. I didn’t think I’d be here this long, and now I’m a lifer. I knew because every year we have to fill out a form for the NJCAA that says how many career wins, and I knew I was close. I was four away at the end of last year, and I knew this year it was coming. Just because I had great kids. The kids do it all. I just stand there and watch.”
Winkler has been at the helm of the Chargers volleyball program since 2003 and says the players and relationships built throughout the years are what have kept him coaching for more than two decades.
