It was a big day for United golf on Wednesday, with both the boys and girls bringing home Lincoln Trail Conference championships.
The United boys made it back-to-back conference titles, edging Bureau Valley 348-351 at Midland Golf Course. Cohen Long led the Red Storm with an 85 to finish fifth, while Peyton Martin and Lucas Horner tied for seventh with an 86. All three earned All-Conference honors.
The girls continued their run of conference titles as well, winning the LTC championship for the sixth straight year. United finished with a team score of 380, beating second-place Stark County by 57 strokes.
Paige Christianson led the way with an 83 to finish second, followed by Kennedy Martin in third with a 90, Abbey Kendall in sixth with a 101 and Carsyn Long in 10th with a 106. All four earned All-Conference honors.
Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp says both teams earned everything they got.
“You’re proud of and you’re excited for our kids, and our kids work hard to get in that position. It’s on them, it’s on our coaches. I knew the girls would have a tough time with Ridgewood coming in, and I knew the boys would have a tough time with Bureau Valley, and they just took care of business. I’m very, very happy, and I want to congratulate them. That’s an awesome accomplishment.”
Both United golf teams will now turn their attention to regional play next week. The girls will be at Baker Park Golf Course in Kewanee on Tuesday, while the boys head to Coyote Creek Golf Club on Wednesday.
