On Thursday, October 22nd at 6:24 AM, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to 206 South Main Street for a report of smoke in the building. Engine 23 arrived on scene within minutes and reported smoke showing from the rear of the structure. Ladder 40 arrived on scene and Assistant Chief Carson established command while upgrading the alarm. Crews prepared for entry and discovered flames visible from the front entrance to the business. Fire crews deployed an attack line, entered the building, and were able to knock down the bulk of the fire. The alarm was then upgraded a second time requesting mutual aid from neighboring departments to assist. Fire crews completed a thorough search of the building where the fire originated and also searched the adjoining buildings to ensure everyone was out and there was no fire extension. Smoke ejectors were set up in multiple locations within the buildings to remove smoke.

Residents living on the second floor above the business were able to escape the fire without injury. The first-floor business sustained extensive damage due to fire and smoke. The second floor of the building and adjoining buildings sustained damage from smoke only.

There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monmouth Fire Department and Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Agencies assisting at the incident included the Monmouth Police Department, Warren County Dispatch Center, Woodard & Curran (public works), RSP&E Fire Protection District, Central Warren Fire Protection District, Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service, 1-800 BOARDUP, Ameren IL, and Nationwide Chaplain Service.
