According to Monmouth City Administrator Lou Leone, an Engineering Agreement for Phase 3 of the Lead Service Line Replacement project was discussed at the latest City Council meeting:
“We know that we have a little over 1,900 unknown locations. We also have about 600 locations that we do know are lead line. What this program does, it is a state revolving loan fund that we can borrow from in order to pay to have the lead lines removed from the main line all the way up to the meter, not from the meter into the house,” states Leone.
“If you are unsure whether or not your home, particularly the older homes, have lead lines that you please call the City office. We will make arrangements to have one of our inspectors take a look. This is actually very helpful for the City as well, if we know whether or not it is a lead service line because the way the state revolving loan fund works, we get reimbursed for the work that is actually done to replace the lead line up to the meter. It doesn’t cover exploratory,” Leone adds.
Phase 3 of the lead service line replacement throughout Monmouth will take place in Fiscal Year 2027.
