As the use of artificial intelligence continues to grow, the Monmouth-Roseville Board of Education is establishing a guidance framework for its role in teaching, learning, and school activities, explains Superintendent Ed Fletcher:
“We had one of our teachers at the high school, Nicole Trego, very intrigued with artificial intelligence, so she volunteered to work with our staff and administration to write some framework for us. Basically, what we are hoping to do, we understand artificial intelligence is here, but how do we use it safely, how do we teach kids to use it ethically, and how do we provide some guidance and professional development for our staff. How do we protect student data, how do we protect staff data; all the while still educating our kids about artificial intelligence. The Board had an opportunity to read it, look at it, and then they ultimately approved that. So, we will move that from draft status to official status.”
Superintendent Fletcher informs the framework will continue to evolve as artificial intelligence transforms.
