Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a reminder to take action. About one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Molly Bitar, Lead Mammography Technologist as OSF Holy Family, explains the ease of scheduling your screening:
“Some people put off mammograms because they are worried about discomfort or about receiving an abnormal result. Our goal is to make the process as comfortable and convenient as possible. We walk people through and talk to people. Communication is key when you are having a mammogram. A screening mammogram is an x-ray of the breast and it remains one of the best tools for detecting breast cancer early,” says Bitar.
“Scheduling is easy because you don’t have to have a provider to get that screening mammogram. You can schedule it through OSF MyChart or visit osfhealthcare.org/mammo. You can do walk-in screening mammograms, which are available at St. Mary and Holy Family,” Bitar adds.
Walk-in mammogram screenings are available at OSF St. Mary Medical Center on Wednesdays from noon to 2:30 pm and the third Saturday of each month, with walk-ins at OSF Holy Family in Monmouth on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 pm.
