On Tuesday, October 20th at 7:16 AM, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to a fire in a residence at 806 West Broadway. Ladder 40 and Engine 23 responded to the scene and found a 2-story residence with no visible smoke showing from the outside. Assistant Chief Cozadd established command and upon further investigation, found smoke coming from the eaves on one side of the home. Cozadd upgraded the alarm and ordered firefighters into the home to conduct a search. Firefighters forced entry into the home and found one resident who was removed from the home along with a dog. Neither the resident nor the dog had any injuries.
When Engine 23 arrived on scene, the crew stretched an attack line to the second floor of the home where the fire was believed to be. The crew encountered heavy smoke and moderate heat and quickly extinguished the fire. A search of the home was completed and there were no remaining occupants inside the house and all were accounted for.
There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Monmouth Fire Department, Monmouth Police Department, and an Investigator from the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
