The United cross country team is enjoying another week of success as they get closer to the postseason.
The Red Storm runners were at the Lincoln Trail Conference Championship last Thursday at Midland Golf Course. Hayven Rundle led the girls with a second-place finish, followed by Lindley Burns in 29th, Rylee Hoefer in 34th and Vanessa Adkisson in 35th. On the boys side, Max McVey finished 22nd, Wyatt Adkisson took 49th and Quinlan Taylor finished 50th.
United was right back at it Tuesday with another solid showing at Illini West in Carthage. Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp shares the results.
“On the girls’ side, Hayven Rundle took first over there. I think she won by like a minute, so she really did a great job. Lindley Burns, this girl’s got so much potential. She’s going to break through one of these days. She got 21st there. On the boys’ side, Max McVey, I know one of his goals was getting top 10, and that’s what he did. He got 10th there, and Wyatt Adkisson took 20th over down there in Carthage. The kids just keep working hard. Put your nose in the grindstone, and you’re gonna do some good things.”
The Red Storm will be back in action Saturday when they head to Detweiller Park in Peoria for the Peoria Heights meet. Detweiller is also the site of the IHSA state finals, giving the United runners a chance to compete on the course they hope to get back to later in the postseason.
