We will once again have two games on Prairieland Media Sports tonight, with United and Monmouth-Roseville both in action for the final week of the regular season.
Starting with the United Red Storm, they will look to keep things rolling after putting together three straight wins and punching their ticket to the postseason.
United improved to 3-5 last week with a huge 47-21 win over South Fulton. The victory officially clinched the Red Storm a playoff spot for the first time since 2021 and continued a turnaround after starting the season 0-5.
The win also kept United right in the middle of the Lincoln Land South Division race. The Red Storm, A-Town, South Fulton and Havana all enter the final week at 3-1 in division play, with United hosting Havana and A-Town taking on South Fulton tonight.
Head Coach Andrew Goodwin says his team has continued to believe and is playing their best football at the right time.
“Just to come from where we were. Nobody expected us to be in this position. When you look at projections that we’re heading into Week 10, nobody expected us to be here. It’s really nice to have a group of kids that continue to believe and faced all adversity, and now they’re coming out to where they’re playing the best football they have. It’s really fantastic to see our kids come together and just continue to build in the right way.”
There will also be plenty going on before the game with Senior Night. United will recognize 12 seniors, a group that was just beginning their sophomore year when Goodwin took over the program and has helped lead the Red Storm back to the postseason. Senior Night festivities will begin at 6 PM.
Havana enters tonight at 5-3 and will give the United defense another tough test. The Ducks are averaging more than 37 points per game and are also playing for a share of the division title and postseason seeding.
United will look to make it four straight wins, bring home a share of the Lincoln Land South Division title and improve their playoff seed.
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans will look to bounce back tonight as they return to Coach Dobry Field for Homecoming against Orion.
The Titans enter the final week of the regular season at 4-4 after a 40-0 loss to Kewanee last Friday night. Monmouth-Roseville was able to move the ball at times but couldn’t get much going against a Kewanee team that claimed the Mississippi Division title.
Monmouth-Roseville already knows their season will continue into Week 10, but there is still plenty to play for tonight. A win would give the Titans their fifth victory for the sixth straight season and put them in a better spot when the playoff pairings are announced tomorrow night.
Orion comes in off a win over Mercer County last week and will give the Titans another tough test to close out the regular season.
It will also be the final regular season game for a group of eight Titan seniors. Adolphson says the group has continued to work through everything thrown at them this season.
“The eight kids we have, zero complaints. It’s eight kids that we’re happy to have, eight kids that are still working their tail off. It’s a good group of guys, and we’re happy that we’re for sure going to get another week, but we talked about, hey, we want to win. We want to keep the streak of five-plus wins going and give you guys an opportunity to win again next week.”
The Titans will host Orion tonight looking to finish the regular season at 5-4 and improve their playoff seed before tomorrow night’s pairing show.
Both games are scheduled for 7 PM. United and Havana can be heard on WRAM AM 1330 and FM 95.7, while Monmouth-Roseville and Orion can be heard on Sunny 97.7 WMOI. Both games will also be available online at radiomonmouth.com, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30.
