The United Red Storm cross country team will have two runners competing in the IHSA Class 1A Sectionals Saturday in Elmwood.
United competed at the Macomb Regional last Saturday at Spring Lake, with freshman Hayven Rundle leading the girls with a third-place finish in a time of 18 minutes and 25 seconds. On the boys side, junior Max McVey finished 22nd with a time of 18 minutes and 24 seconds, earning his spot in the sectional meet.
The Red Storm boys finished eighth as a team, just missing out on advancing, while the young girls group continued to show improvement throughout the season.
United Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp says both runners have put in plenty of work to get to this point.
“It’s going to be a tough one. But go out there, do your best, run your race, and that’s all I’m asking. Represent our school, and I know those two will, without a doubt, represent us with class. We are excited to see that. Hayven will start at 10 and Max at 11, so if you get a chance or are in that area, stop on out.”
The sectional meet will take place Saturday at Maple Lane Country Club in Elmwood, with both runners looking to earn a spot in next weekend’s IHSA State Finals at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
