The United Red Storm saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the IHSA playoffs.

United fell 70-15 on the road against a very talented Fulton squad, finishing the season with a 3-7 overall record.

The Red Storm entered the matchup banged up and without starting quarterback Kellen Boone, who was unable to play due to a shoulder injury. United struggled to get much going offensively, while Fulton took control early and never looked back.

Despite the loss, United took a big step forward this season. After starting the year 0-5, the Red Storm rattled off three straight wins to earn their first playoff appearance since 2021 and give this senior group one more chance to play in Week 10.

Head Coach Andrew Goodwin says this group helped move the program in the right direction.

“This group started building the house. We’ve laid the foundation the past two years, and for us making Week 10, that’s kind of starting where we want to be. The group of men that did this, did a lot more than 3 wins and making the playoffs. It’s what they showed the younger kids and how to work. I couldn’t ask more of this group for putting us in the direction that we are. Hopefully, we can just continue to build on the success that they have brought to this program.”

United will lose 12 seniors from this year’s team, but the numbers throughout the program continue to grow. The Red Storm finished the season with 51 players on the roster after having 33 in each of Goodwin’s first two years, with another strong group coming up through the junior high program.

The Red Storm finish the 2026 season at 3-7 overall with their first trip to the postseason in five years.
