We will once again have two games on Prairieland Media Sports tonight, with United and Monmouth-Roseville both back in action for Week 8.
Starting with the United Red Storm, they will look to keep things rolling after picking up back-to-back wins over the last two weeks.
United improved to 2-5 with a 49-6 win over LVC last Friday night. The Red Storm jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and finished with 359 yards of offense in the first half alone.
Now United gets a much tougher test against a South Fulton squad that enters at 6-1 and has won six straight since falling to Stark County in Week 1.
The Rebels have leaned heavily on their run game this season, and Head Coach Andrew Goodwin says slowing down number 20 will be a big key for the Red Storm defense.
“Bottling up 20 is going to be a key. 129 attempts, he’s the workhorse for them on offense and defense. He doesn’t come off the field except if it’s a special team or two. So we’re gonna have to be ready for everything that they throw at us. They’re fighting for something of a conference championship this week, and we’re trying to take it away from them.”
United also has plenty on the line. A win would move the Red Storm to 3-5 and put them in position to secure a spot in the postseason under the new IHSA playoff format.
The Red Storm will host South Fulton tonight on Hall of Fame Night.
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans will look to make it four straight wins as they hit the road for a huge matchup with Kewanee.
The Titans improved to 4-3 last week with a 59-0 win over Chicago Little Village. Monmouth-Roseville jumped out to a 53-0 lead at halftime and was able to get plenty of younger players on the field in the second half.
Now the Titans turn their attention to a much different challenge. Kewanee enters tonight at 3-0 on their side of the conference, and a Monmouth-Roseville win would give the Titans a share of the conference title.
Head Coach Jeremy Adolphson says the Titans know what they have to do.
“We told the kids from the beginning, this is how we’re going to win the game. We have to out football the heck out of these guys. It’s got to be assignments. It’s got to be blocking, tackling, pad level. It’s got to be communication. We’ve got to just out football them like crazy, because as soon as the play breaks down or becomes something about who can just go faster and get to the spot, they’re going to do more of that than we are. We’ve got to make it very, very difficult for them to get to those spots.”
The Titans will make the trip to Kewanee tonight looking to bring home a share of the conference title and improve to 5-3 on the season.
Both games are scheduled for 7 PM. United and South Fulton can be heard on WRAM AM 1330 and FM 95.7, while Monmouth-Roseville at Kewanee can be heard on Sunny 97.7 WMOI. Both games will also be available online at radiomonmouth.com, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30.
