Illinois residents looking for individual health insurance can soon explore coverage options through Get Covered Illinois as the open enrollment time frame is quickly approaching. Missie Shepherd, Owner of Way Insurance Services, breaks it down:
“Individual market is under 65, generally. People that need to insure themselves. You don’t have coverage through an employer, maybe you are self-employed, and you insure yourself through Get Covered Illinois or you can buy a policy direct. Now, those dates are November 1st to December 15th for a January 1st effective date. We can continue to enroll people until January 15th, but the effective date will be February 1st. We try to focus on that November 1st to December 15th open enrollment period for Get Covered Illinois and individual policies,” shares Shepherd.
“We don’t expect rates to go down, but generally if folks are qualifying for a tax credit, normally tax credits will keep up with the rate increase. It is the folks that don’t qualify for tax credits that are going to have another rough year and another increase coming their way,” Shepherd adds.
Blue Cross Blue Shield remains the only health insurance option available in Knox and Warren counties through Get Covered Illinois.
