The Monmouth College Fighting Scots football team is back home Saturday for Senior Day after picking up another dominant win in Midwest Conference play.
Monmouth improved to 6-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference with a 54-7 win over Illinois College in Jacksonville. The Scots scored 48 unanswered points after trailing 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, with quarterback Silas Braun throwing for a career-high 382 yards and five touchdowns.
Now Monmouth turns their attention to Grinnell, who enters at 5-3 following a 7-3 win over Cornell in their last game. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Scots, and Head Coach Chad Braun says it’s been a special group to coach.
“It’s been an incredible senior group. They’ve done a great job stepping up this year. We lost so many good players a year ago, you think about we lost four conference players of the year, and these guys have just done a great job stepping up, filling those shoes. The leadership’s been outstanding. It’s just been a fun group to coach. Obviously, it’s going to be an emotional day for me, with Silas being a senior.”
Monmouth and Grinnell will kick things off at 1 PM Saturday at April Zorn Memorial Stadium, with Senior Day recognition taking place before the game.
