The United high school baseball team was able to play 3 contests since last Friday. Last Saturday the Red Storm took a tough loss to a solid Illini West ballclub by a final score of 12-3, before going on the road to play another good squad in the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans on Monday. United would ultimately lose that match 8-5 before rebounding last night with an 8-1 victory over Ridgewood in Woodhull. After that slate of games United currently sits at a respectable (13-9) overall on the season, as they gear up for the final stretch of the season. The Red Storm are (5-1) in the Lincoln Trail Conference West Division and can clinch at least a share of the LTC West Division crown with a sweep of West Central in Stronghurst on Saturday in the final division games for both schools. United is tied with Mercer County atop the standings, with Abingdon-Avon a game behind at (4-2). Mercer County and Abingdon-Avon play a doubleheader on Monday in Aledo.

The Red Storm have been placed as a 3 seed in the Abingdon-Avon regional and will have a big regular season test coming up on May 11th as they travel to play 22-4 Bushnell-Prairie City. Head Coach Ryan Molek gave his thoughts about the placement and regular season match with BPC, on the WRAM morning show.

The Red Storm can clinch at least a share of the LTC West Division crown with a sweep of West Central in Stronghurst on Saturday. United’s first regional matchup will be with the host Tornadoes in the Abingdon-Avon regional at 6:30 PM on May 17th. For the full interview with Coach Molek, visit the Sports Podcast section.
