WIU Student Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography

On April 28th, 2023, the Macomb Police Department, with the assistance of Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety, executed a search warrant on a dormitory room within Thompson Hall. Subsequent to the search warrant being executed, Oscar Herrera, 19 of Chicago, IL was arrested.

The search warrant was based upon an ongoing investigation into the dissemination of child pornography through an online platform. The Macomb Police Department, assigned to the Illinois Attorney General Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), gathered evidence indicating Herrera was in possession of child pornography.

Herrera was charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Possession of Child Pornography with the Intent to Distribute. Herrera is currently lodged at the McDonough County Jail pending a bond in the amount of $50,000.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
