Arrest Made in Galesburg July 6th Shooting Incident

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 11:48 pm, Galesburg Police responded to a report of a subject shot in the 000 Block of Cherry Street. On arrival, officers located a male gunshot victim in the roadway. The victim was identified as Mario D. Washington. Washington was treated on scene and eventually transported to OSF St. Francis in Peoria. The victim survived and continues to receive treatment for the injuries sustained.

After an extensive investigation by the Galesburg Police Department, with the assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Knox County State’s Attorney, Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police, and the FBI TOC West Task Force, two subjects were identified as suspects involved in the shooting. This resulted in attempted murder arrest warrants being issued for Gregory O. Wallace, age 39, and James M. Wilson, age 43.

On October 22, 2024, Gregory O. Wallace was apprehended in Chicago by the FBI Fugitive Task Force and the Chicago Police Department. On October 28, 2024, Wallace was transferred to the Knox County Jail, where he is currently awaiting court proceedings for attempted murder.  

An active arrest warrant for attempted murder currently remains for James M. Wilson. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Wilson are urged to contact their local Law Enforcement Agency or Local Crime Stoppers.
