Arrest Made in Connection with July 6th Galesburg Shooting

On July 6, 2024 at approximately 11:48 p.m., Galesburg Police responded to a report of a subject shot in the 000 Block of Cherry Street. On arrival Officers located a male gunshot victim in the roadway. The victim was identified as Mario D. Washington. Washington was treated on scene and eventually transported to OSF St. Francis in Peoria. After an extensive investigation by the Galesburg Police Department, with the assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Knox County State’s Attorney, Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police and the FBI TOC West Task Force, two subjects were identified as suspects involved in the shooting. This resulted in arrest warrants for attempted murder being issued for: 

Gregory O. Wallace age 39

James M. Wilson age 42

On November 13, 2024, James M. Wilson turned himself in, accompanied by his attorney, at the Galesburg Public Safety Building (150 South Broad Street) and later taken to the Knox County Courthouse where a first appearance hearing was held.  Due to the provisions of the pretrial fairness act, James M. Wilson was ordered to be released by the court. Upon completion of the hearing James A. Wilson was then taken to the Knox County Jail where he was booked and released from custody. A preliminary hearing has been set for December 16th at 2:00 p.m.
