Even following a loss to the A-Town Tornadoes that broke a 16-game winning streak, the United Red Storm girls basketball team were voted into the top ten of the Class 1A poll last week. It’s the first time in program history that the girls have been on the list. The Red Storm were receiving votes in the poll before the holiday break and finally broke into the top-10 last week, at #8. United is (19-2) overall and with a nice win against Princeville on Monday night, they are just a half-game behind first place Abingdon-Avon in the Lincoln Trail Conference standings. A-Town was voted the #1 team in last week’s 1A poll. Red Storm coach Chris Olson appreciates the ranking and says it’s great for his girls to get some recognition for their hard work.

The Red Storm girls will get back on the floor on Thursday night as they host Annawan for a Lincoln Trail Conference contest. A match up against a team they are currently tied for 2nd place in the league with, the Wethersfield Flying Geese, looms next Monday in Kewanee.
