Used to treat Type 2 Diabetes and weight management, GLP-1 drugs gained widespread attention. Solvera Health’s Dr. Julio Santiago breaks down what has been seen so far with the use of the drug:

“They are continuing to monitor for any long-term effects; there hasn’t been any significant long-term effects at this time. There are short-term effects with the medication, usually related to gastrointestinal problems, but we have seen a lot of success with people trying to reduce weight and maintain weight. Many times you will find the people on GLP-1 medications will get down to their goal weight and they are losing one hundred plus pounds and are feeling fantastic, getting rid of a lot of their diabetic medications, blood pressure medications, and even sometimes their pain medications for their osteoarthritis, which is related,” says Dr. Santiago.

“What you do find out is they need a maintenance medication to continue that weight reduction,” Dr. Santiago adds.
