The world continues to change, and one of those changes is the growing use of electric vehicles in the local communities. Ameren Illinois is working to help with that transition.

Beneficial Electrification Executive Mark Mendon says Ameren partners with communities to help them develop plans for electrifying transportation.

“What we do is partner with communities and look at their goals when it comes to electrifying transportation. Then we help write a comprehensive plan for them at no cost. For qualifying communities like Galesburg, we actually give them a grant.”

Mendon says Ameren is already seeing the electric vehicle trend locally. As of last year, the City of Galesburg had 80 electric vehicles on the road, along with one electric bus.

Over the past three years, Ameren created electrification plans for 80 municipalities. The company is now launching another three-year cycle with plans to assist 10 municipalities per year.
