Applications are currently being accepted by Western Illinois Regional Council-Community Action Agency for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Community Services and Public Relations Director Jamie Roth notes the eligibility guidelines:
“There are certain criteria that they have to meet, and they have to meet all of them. Unfortunately, this is not something that we, WIRC, decide. For our program, you need to live in one of five counties, that includes Warren County, Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, and Knox. Number two, is that you have to be within the income limits. Again, these are not set by us. For a one-person household, they can make no more than $3,990 per month. For two people, is it $5,410 per month. We are happy to talk to you if you call to see if you are within those income limits,” says Roth.
“If you meet those two things and as long as you are living in the house that you are applying for and the bill is in your name or the name of someone in the house, then we can talk and work with you on getting an appointment,” Roth adds.
Roth reports that during the last LIHEAP program season, over 6,000 households were assisted.
