George Edwin “Eddie” Harrison, 78, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Eddie was born August 25, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of Arthur and Delia (Hurt) Harrison.  After graduating from high School Eddie enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 22, 1965.  He was honorably discharged on July 21, 1969.  Eddie graduated from Carl Sandburg College with an A.A.S.

Eddie worked as an aeronautical drafter for many years at Allison Transmission in Speedway, IN.  He went on to teach aeronautical drafting at Vincennes University for several years, prior to retiring.  While working his main career, Eddie moonlighted as a realtor in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

Eddie married Nancy Lynn Steele on November 26, 1983 in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on April 16, 2004.  Eddie is survived by one daughter, Tina Way of Indianapolis, IN; a son, Christopher (Elizabeth) Way of Madison, IN; and three grandchildren, Brendan McCoy, Maxwell Way, and Libbey Way.  Eddie is also survived by one brother, Arthur B. Harrison, Jr. of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews including, Jamie (Nikki) Harrison of Galesburg and Julie (Mark) Maltese of Carol Stream, Illinois; and his dear friend and neighbor, Charlene Taylor of Galesburg.  Along with his wife and parents, Eddie was preceded in death by one brother, James Harrison; and one sister, Audrey Sandall.

Living in Indianapolis, Eddie was an avid car racing fan, attending many races at the Indianapolis Speedway.  He was especially fond of Indy Car racing as well as NASCAR and was a die-hard Jeff Gordon fan.  Eddie was a Chevrolet Corvette enthusiast.  He enjoyed owning, showing, restoring, and building many different corvette’s over the years.

Cremation has been accorded.  Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Gilson Cemetery, Gilson, Illinois.  Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate.  Military honors will be conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
