Volunteers Help Make Work Light at Western Illinois Animal Rescue

Share

Volunteers are a vital part in caring for the animals at Western Illinois Animal Rescue. Treasurer Jan Helms shares volunteers have four different times to select from to lend a hand:

“We need volunteers for our cats and for the dogs. We have four shifts a day that we let the dogs out. Two of them are meal shifts. All of them are water shifts, we change out their water and cleanup, take them out, let them play, and watch what they do so that we can keep track and that everything is working okay for everyone. Breakfast and happy hour at five; breakfast shift in the morning is anywhere from 6:00 to 7:30 and you feed them and give them any medications they might need, let them out, and give them loving, mark down how everybody is doing, and then you go in the next shift when you are needed. Lunch and tuck-in time are mostly a time to just let them out and give them fresh water if they need it.”

As for donations, Helms says WIAR is always in need of pet food, cat litter, and cleaning supplies.
