United Board of Education Approves District Calendar and Sets Fees for 2023-2024 Year

A District Calendar for the 2023-2024 academic year has been approved by the United Board of Education, which will consist of early out days on the first Friday of each month, explains Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt:

“Our administration had proposed an early out day for next year, one day a week for the calendar next year. We did approve a calendar that includes a few more School Improvement Days then we have typically scheduled. We have some big curriculum adoptions going on next year, which was the emphasis behind the ask for the early out so that our teachers could collaborate. It was decided that we shouldn’t probably burden our parents and make a schedule quite so all-encompassing over the course of the year. The compromise was that we will be full days, but then we are going to add the first Friday of every month will be an SIP day and we will have a 1:00 pm dismissal on those days so our teachers can get together.”

Also at the recent United Board of Education meeting, fees were set for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Lunch fees for the year will increase by ten cents and Superintendent Whitsitt reported the substitute teacher base rate will not increase; however, there will be an added incentive to subs working 15 days or more:

“We did not raise our substitute teaching base rate, but we did add an incentive portion to it. Any substitute that comes out to United and it can be in any of our four buildings on any given day, once they have been with us for 15 days over the course of the year, we increase their sub pay rate. If they work for us for 12 days they make $100 a day. If they work for us for 20 days they make $110 a day.”

The United Board also approved a bid of $1.36 million to complete the HVAC at the High School.
