April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer says an increased officer presence will be out on the roadways:
“We will definitely have extra officers out looking for distracted driving violations; using your cellphone, texting or talking while you are driving, animals in your vehicle; if you have to take your animal somewhere, the vet or the groomer, you can get into accidents with your animals on your lap because you are not paying attention to what is going on around you, you are being distracted and those can cause some accidents, also seat belt violations. They also focus on DUI violations.”
During the month of February, the Monmouth Police Department conducted 34 arrests, wrote 114 violations, responded to 1,092 calls, and 11 accidents.
