Mr. George L. “Augie” Kent, Jr., 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:56 a.m. March 7, 2023, at his home in Galesburg.

He was born August 5, 1943, in La Harpe, Illinois to George L. and Blanche (Long) Kent, Sr. He married Gloria Schrodt and had two sons, Todd Kent of Peoria, Illinois and Chris (and Jackie Glass) Kent of Galesburg. He later married Lorayne Edwardson in 1977 in Wataga, Illinois and had another son, Brad (and Jill) Kent of DeWitt, Iowa.

Surviving are his three sons, a sister, Joyce Allred of Glendale Heights, Illinois, three grandchildren, Brianna, Brooke, and Blake, and a great-grandchild, Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Barbara Reneau and Betty VanDusan, and a daughter in law, Debbie Kent.

Augie served in the United States Navy. He worked as an assembler for Gale Product, Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for over 26 years and was a self-employed painter. He was also the caretaker of the Gale Lake in East Galesburg. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Galesburg. Augie was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family.

As Augie requested, cremation will be accorded. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon. Military honors will be conducted by the Abingdon American Legion Honor Guard. A Celebration of Life wil follow the graveside service from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at American Legion in Abingdon. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon American Legion Post # 381. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Abingdon Chapel is proudly assisting the family with arrangements.
