Lawrence Duane Garman, Jr. a.k.a. “Worm”, 67, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 10:39 p.m. with his family by his side.

Worm was born June 19, 1955 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Lawrence D. Garman and Patricia J. (Tuthill) Garman. Duane honorably served in the US Army. He went on to work for many years with Gibbons Construction and Masonry. He worked for a time as a chef on an offshore oil rig, was a CNA, and was a bartender for several different establishments in the Galesburg area.

Worm was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, loved to watch the Kentucky Derby, and cooking. He loved to be with his family, enjoyed cooking, watching old westerns, and country music. He was very meticulous in his appearance and will be remembered for his generous spirit.

Duane is survived by two sisters, Beth Hankins of Galesburg and Tammy (Tommy) Gibbons of Abingdon, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Peggy Wallace; and his only son, Trevor Garman in 2002.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, with eulogies being read at 4:00 p.m. A celebration of life will continue after eulogies at the Thomas Legacy Center. Private family graveside services will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg with military rites conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard.
