West Central IL ROSC Holding Narcan Training and 3rd International Overdose Awareness Day Candlelight Vigil

West Central Illinois Recovery Oriented System of Care, or ROSC, will be holding a community Narcan training event on Thursday, August 24th from 6 to 6:45 pm at Bridgeway in Galesburg. System of Care Coordinator Leann Courson explains the importance in utilizing Narcan:

“In 2021, over 100,000 people died due to a drug overdose in the United States, which is a huge number. They saw the need for community members to carry Narcan. The same way we all get training in CPR, we all can be trained in Narcan and how to administer Narcan. It really is a life saving medication. In Knox County since 2017, 42 people have died to a drug overdose. Those are just the coroner’s numbers, so that does not include the individuals that unfortunately pass away in a hospital.”

Bridgeway and the West Central Illinois ROSC will also host their 3rd Annual International Overdose Awareness Day Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, August 31st from 7:30 to 8:30 pm on the Public Square in Galesburg to remember and honor the lives lost due to an overdose.
