Evelyn J. Stroud, 72, of Alpha, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at home.

She was born September 29, 1951, in Galesburg, the daughter of Charles L. and Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Hallstrom) McCulloch. She married Donald E. Stroud on July 24, 1976, at First Lutheran Church of Galesburg. He survives.

She is also survived by three brothers, Tom (Eryn) McCulloch of Spokane, Washington, Michael (Leslie Fletcher) McCulloch of Galesburg, and David (Tami) McCulloch of Galesburg; a nephew, John McCulloch of Galesburg; several cousins; a sister-in-law, Vicki (Al) Hadden of Dahinda; and two nieces, Heather and Amy. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Evelyn was raised and educated in Galesburg, where she graduated from Galesburg High School in 1969. She went on to attend Western Illinois University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1973.

Evelyn was a teacher for over 30 years at the YMCA Kid Care Station. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed stamping and making cards. In younger days, she and Don, raised and showed Arabian horses.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Pamela Marolla officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Evelyn’s name may be made to First Lutheran Church or Tri-County Ambulance Service.
