Area Residents: Ask For Credentials First

Share

The City of Monmouth wants to inform its residents about door-to-door solicitors. It’s important to know that these individuals are not affiliated with the City or Ameren Illinois.

Recently, there’s been an increase in door-to-door visits from energy suppliers, general contractors, and solar panel installers targeting homes and small businesses in Monmouth. Some of these visitors may try to pressure you into signing contracts for services like energy supply or solar panel installation. Furthermore, every year, the City revokes and removes multiple solicitors from town due to their predatory tactics and false claims.

We urge all residents to proceed with caution. Before sharing your billing details or any confidential information, please ensure you’re dealing with someone trustworthy. Be skeptical of sales offers that seem too good to be true.

Please note, the City does not issue badges to solicitors. Instead, all legitimate door-to-door salespeople must have a solicitation permit, which they obtain from city hall. This permit should be signed by City staff. We strongly advise asking to see this solicitation permit before engaging in any conversation or sharing any information with solicitors.

If a solicitor approaches you without a valid solicitation permit, we encourage you to call the public safety building at 309-734-8383 so the police can begin enforcement. This step is crucial in maintaining the safety and integrity of our community.

If a solicitor cannot present a valid permit or if you feel uncomfortable at any point, they are obligated to leave your property upon request.
