Wyman Homers Twice but Scots Softball Lose Pair at IWU

MONMOUTH, ILL. (03/21/2024) The Monmouth College softball team dropped a pair of road games at Illinois Wesleyan on Thursday. The Scofs lost the first game 21-2 and the second game 6-1.

In the opening game, the Titans scored one in the first inning and 11 in the second to lead 12-0. Abby Winstead (Morton, Illinois) led off the third with a single and Grace Wyman (Pekin, Illinois) hit her second homer of the season to get the Scots on the board.

The Titans added three in the third and six in the fourth to win 21-2 on the mercy rule.

In game two, the Titans scored three in the second and two in the third for a 5-0 lead. Wyman homered again in the fifth inning to put the Scots on the board. The hosts scored the final two runs of the game to win 7-1.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Wyman and Vanessa Wright (Villa Grove, Illinois) both had two hits in the opener. Wyman homered in both games and leads the team with three homers on the season. She had all three of Monmouth’s RBI on the day. McKealey Klokkenga (Delavan, Illinois) pitched in both games, starting the opener and finishing the night cap. After 14 games away from Monmouth, the Scots are scheduled to play a home doubleheader on Saturday. The first game against Greenville University starts at 1 p.m. and the Scots also host Blackburn College in a 1 p.m. DH on Sunday.
