WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for Week Ending April 7, 2024


Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 7, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Zach Almaguer. As the weather is warming up, so is Zach’s bat. In a TRAC West Division road win against Riverdale, he blasted two home runs and garnered five rbis, all while playing the difficult catcher position on defense. Zach threw out an amazing six runners trying to steal a base last week.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman baseball player, Chance Stewart. Chance is wreaking havoc on the base-paths as a leadoff hitter. In three games last week, he was on base 7 out of 9 plate appearances, scoring a team-high three runs. Chance showed speed and power, hitting a double and stealing 4 bases for the week.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman softball player, Rebecca Hinshaw. Rebecca went 2-3 with 2 runs scored in the Heat’s 6-2 home opening win over Kewanee. A speedy center fielder, she also stole a base in the victory and leads the club in triples for the season. Rebecca is tied for the team lead in batting average, as well.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls track and field athlete, Lily Furrow. Lily was outstanding on her home track at Galesburg High School in the Silver Streak Invitational. She showed her versatility by earning a first place medal in the 300 meter hurdles, took 2nd in the triple jump and ran a leg on the winning 4×100 meter relay team.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is freshman softball player, Alisha Snyder. Alisha was a Tornado on offense last week in three A-town wins. She batted .667 and was on base an amazing 10 out of 13 times at the plate. Alisha also displayed a little power, as well, hitting a pair of doubles and driving in three runs.

Grunert Vaults Way to NCAA Championship Meet

It was a late night, but Western Illinois pole vaulter Arnie Grunert did not mind, putting in a little extra work on Wednesday night. The Leatherneck sophomore made program history in multiple ways, setting
