Donald “Don” Hillery, 66, of Abingdon, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Don was born on October 31, 1957 in Galesburg. He was the son of Herman A. and Delores “Dee” (Dawson) Hillery. He married Maggie Bearce on October 27, 1984 in Galesburg. Together they celebrated 39 years of marriage. Surviving Don are his wife, Maggie; mother, Dee of Knoxville; children Shane (Missy) Peterson of Abingdon, Jason (Lindsey Schisler) Peterson of St. Augustine, Jami (Jerome) Goodlow of Abingdon and Craig Hillery of Galesburg; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brothers, Chuck (Lanni) Hillery of Knoxville, Bruce (Joy) Hillery of Galesburg, and Larry (Julie) Hillery of El Paso; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman.

Don was a 1975 graduate of Knoxville High School. He worked for G&M Distributers as a service manager for 38 years. He also enjoyed working as a carpenter. Don loved building and helping people. In his free time, he loved to play his Xbox, especially Madden; fishing and bowling. He was an AVID Chicago Bears fan. Don was an all-around great guy, loving father, brother and the best grandpa and great grandpa ever.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024 at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
