Marjorie R. Kinney, 87, of Monmouth, IL passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

She was born December 1, 1937 in Monmouth, the daughter of Oscar Ludwig Sr. and Alma Catherine (Knuth) Johnson.  She was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending Monmouth Schools.

Majorie married John P. Phillips in Monmouth on June 2, 1957 and he died on October 14, 1974.  She later married Charles Robert “Bob” Kinney in Monmouth on June 11, 1983 and he died on December 8, 2000.

Marjorie assisted with the family farm.  She was also a biscuit maker at Hardees and a meat wrapper at Giant Foods both in Monmouth.

She was raised Catholic and attended St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Alexis.  She later became a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth.

She enjoyed anything rabbits, shirts and nicknacks.  She also loved travelling throughout the United States with Bob.  She cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed attending the stock car races in the area where several members of her family participated.

Survivors include her sons, John M. “Mike” (Mary Smith) Phillips and Jeffery A. (Linda) Phillips, both of Monmouth; her grandchildren, Missy Phillips, Nikki (Jason) Cook, Corey Phillips and Ryan Phillips all of Monmouth; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Brandon, Avery, Aubrey and Grace; great-great granddaughter, Aria; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter-in-law, Dawn Phillips; and 10 siblings, Mary L. Miller, Roy L. Johnson, Sr, Ellen D. Jones, Oscar L. Johnson, Jr., Wilber R. Johnson, Rose Scott, Josephine Johnson, Margaret A. Johnson, Patricia A. Leath, and Frank A. Johnson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Interment will be at Monmouth Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am Saturday morning at the funeral home.
