As it begins to get darker earlier in the evenings, Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer reminds motorists to be on the lookout for pedestrians, bicyclists, and deer:
“We are having nice days and cool nights, it is getting darker, I think around 6:30 pm now it is starting to get dark. Just be careful when you are out driving around that time of night, there might be a lot of people out enjoying the cool weather walking around. Kids are out playing or riding bikes. Just be courteous to them and take it slow when you are going around. If you are going out to ride or to walk, carry a flashlight with you or wear something reflective. Plus, out on the edges of town, the deer are starting to move around.”
Additionally, Chief Switzer informs that during the month of August, the Monmouth Police Department made 61 arrests, issued 148 citations, 3,606 calls came into the dispatch center, 1,734 calls were handled by officers, 3,366 calls were dispatched out, responded to 15 accidents, and the officers worked 18 grant hours.
