Each winter, superintendents across the local school districts are paying close attention to the weather forecasts and road conditions as they decide to have school for the day, transition to an e-learning day, or cancel school completely. Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Ed Fletcher says it all centers around students’ safety:

“The timing of weather events can be very, very scary at times for superintendents. I tend to look at a bunch of different weather apps, listen to a bunch of different forecasts to try and see if there are trends to what I am seeing. Looking at the timing, when will it come. Can we get kids to school, or can we get them home, can we feed kids; ultimately it all centers around student safety. I work with my Transportation Director Jim Kane, Scott Haase our Facilities Director, and of course all the local superintendents are in contact. Sometimes we have different viewpoints. Then it becomes a personal decision on the superintendent’s part.”

Superintendent Fletcher informs the Monmouth-Roseville School District has four more e-learning days that can be used during this current academic year.
