As new reports are showing rises in cancer survival rates, local Senior Development Manager with the American Cancer Society Stacey Dutton says education and early detection are the key components:
“Educate yourself, just educate yourself, visit cancer.org if you have any questions. Do not Google. Visit cancer.org, it is easy to remember. You can search questions to ask your doctor, the guidelines for screenings. If you are diagnosed, you can learn all about that and the treatment. Nutrition is always available and always important and activities for patients, survivors, or just all of us need to stay active and eat healthy. All of those are very helpful at cancer.org.”
Additionally, January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, which Dutton reports screening guidelines have been updated for HPV testing to begin at age 25 and every five years through the age of 65.
